Position Description 

Position: Tile Setter

Type of employment: Full time; Permanent

No of positions: 3

Anticipated Start date: As soon as possible.

Work Location: Various locations in Lower Mainland, Greater Vancouver, Fraser Valley (BC).

 

Salary and Benefits 

Salary: $28.00 per hour

Overtime and Vacation Pay

Stable & full-time employment

Relocation Assistance: $1500.00 CAD (for qualified candidates coming from different cities, provinces, or regions).

 

Job Responsibilities 

  • Estimate the materials, tools, and time required for a project. This includes measuring areas and planning tile layouts to minimize waste.
  • Develop project timelines and milestones, coordinating with other trades and the client as necessary.
  • Address client questions and concerns, providing updates on the project status and any modifications needed.
  • Prepare the surfaces intended for tiling by measuring and marking them accurately, ensuring optimal tile arrangement and fit.
  • Build a secure foundation for tiling projects by constructing underbeds and installing anchor bolts, wires, and brackets.
  • Prepare and apply adhesive materials such as mortar, cement, or glue, using a hand trowel to ensure a solid base for tile placement.
  • Measure and precisely cut tiles to fit around obstacles and openings using specialized hand and power cutting tools.
  • Utilize levelling tools, squares, and straight edges to align and straighten tiles, ensuring a seamless and even installation.
  • Arrange tiles according to design plans, paying attention to patterns, orientation, and spacing to achieve desired aesthetic outcomes.
  • Install tiles or natural stone materials such as marble and granite on various surfaces including walls, floors, ceilings, and roof decks, adhering to design specifications and quality standards.
  • Identify, remove, and replace damaged or compromised tiles to maintain the installation's integrity and appearance.
  • Ensure safe work practices and ensure the work area is free of hazards.
  • Train team members in tile-setting techniques and best practices.

 

Job Requirements 

  • Successful completion of secondary school education.
  • Completion of a 3–4-year apprenticeship program in a relevant trade, or a minimum of 2 years' experience in the field.
  • Strong command of the English language, both spoken and written, for effective communication.
  • Willingness to work in various settings, including both indoor and outdoor locations, and under all weather conditions.
  • Sufficient fitness and stamina to lift and transport heavy objects.
  • A strong commitment to delivering high-quality work, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Exceptional oral and written communication abilities, coupled with strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lead subordinates and execute tasks efficiently.
