Job Title: Tissue Culture Lab Technician

Number of positions: 4

Location: Abbotsford, BC

Wage: $27.50/hr

Job Type: Full-time (minimum 30 hours/week)

Job Description: We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Biological Technician to join our team and contribute to the success of our plant production operations. As a Biological Technician, you will be responsible for providing technical support in the final stage operations of plant production, conducting experiments, and ensuring the overall quality and health of our plants.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical support functions in final stage operations of plant production.
  • Execute experimental procedures to support research, production, and quality control, utilizing techniques such as microscopic examination.
  • Assist in tests and analysis of plant performance, specifically in plant tissue culture media and mother plants.
  • Conduct stringent quality checks before shipping, ensuring plants are disease-free and meet quality and quantity standards.
  • Set up equipment daily and ensure safe operating procedures for the autoclave, laminar flow hood, and other applicable procedures.
  • Follow established protocols for laboratory procedures, focusing on quality data collection and documentation of results.
  • Assist in performing experiments at various stages, including Stage 3, Stage 3.5, and Stage 4, with a focus on growing plants as mother plants.
  • Take responsibility for plant health, including providing nutrients, pruning in the final stage, and ensuring optimal conditions.
  • Participate in the analysis of data and preparation of reports related to plant health, nutritional needs, inventory, yield, etc.
  • Manage temperature and environmental conditions during the final plant stage, ensuring optimal growth conditions.
  • Work with a high level of speed, precision, and accuracy during full micropropagation.
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy while completing repetitive tasks for extended periods.

Skills:

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow established protocols.
  • Excellent organizational and multitasking skills.
  • Knowledge of autoclave and laminar flow hood operation is a plus.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.

Educational qualification:

  • Completion of Secondary school
  • Completion of a one- to two-year college program in a related field  OR 2 to 3 years of work experience in commercial agriculture
